The next chapter of our 2025 retrospective series concerns MÜTTERLEIN and artist Marion's deeply emotive 3rd album "Amidst the Flames, May Our Organs Resound". Our series has so far explored "Black Noise" by BONG-RA (check here) and "I I" by BLOOD ABSCISSION (click here).
With "Amidst the Flames, May Our Organs Resound", MÜTTERLEIN intensifies the project's signature sound and conceptual vision by embracing increased heft, tension and dynamics. Largely written and performed by MÜTTERLEIN – excepting collaborations with TREHA SEKTORI on the tracks ‘Memorial One' and ‘Memorial Two' – the record uses dark industrial electronics and ritualistic repetition to highlight different forms of oppression and abuse:
""Amidst the Flames, May Our Organs Resound" is a musical tribute, a memorial work that explores the deep wounds left by oppression throughout history. This album is an ode to all those who have suffered in silence, especially women, whose bodies have been instrumentalised and sacrificed, like Anarcha Westcott, a tragic and emblematic figure in the history of modern gynaecology. My music is drawn to the silent world – those stories, lives, and sufferings that history ignores or erases."
Recorded at Diskar Loar in 2024 and mixed and mastered by Tim De Gieter (AMENRA) at Much Luv Studio, MÜTTERLEIN obtained an aptly massive sound to match the conceptuals. The monumental artwork and layout by Dehn Sora (THROANE) completed the record's cohesive vision.
A year after release, Marion reflects further on the record:
"With "Amidst the Flames, May Our Organs Resound", I chose a more conceptual path, less frontal than the previous album, to further hone my tools and carve emotions with greater precision. The record explores intensity in a quieter, more deliberate manner, seeking honesty through restraint rather than impact alone. I am aware that it is not an easy listen, and it was never meant to be. I'm deeply thankful for the care and openness with which listeners have embraced this committed, unruly little beast."
"Amidst the Flames, May Our Organs Resound" also resonated strongly with critics who highlighted its emotional gravity:
"I'm not really sure what I can say about "Amidst the Flames, May Our Organs Resound" that will actually do it justice. I'm incredibly moved by it and have been obsessing over it since I first heard it a little over a week ago. It's one of those releases that feels like so much more than just music. It's a monument, a tribute, an outpouring. It doesn't just deserve to be heard – it demands it." (Everything Is Noise)
""Amidst the Flames, May Our Organs Resound" has become an absolute masterpiece in its completely unrestrained stylistic freedom—brutal, emotional, and immensely intense. Blindfolds off, surrender to it." (Powermetal.de)
"MÜTTERLEIN leaves us ravenous – Marion Leclercq offers no answers, no solutions, no strategies to confront the vile and the intolerable. She transmits her disgust and her love in a single stroke, linking them to our own emotions, a shared humanity reduced to animality by circumstance. In this world, there is only one option: to scream. So let us scream together." (Thrashocore)
